What innovations are you expecting from smartphone producers next year 2019? This year 2018 has been good but definitely 2019 have so much in store already. Here are 5 top smartphone trends to look out for next year.

5. PINHOLES NOTCH

Pinhole notch can’t be ignored in this list. It is currently one of the trend that will take over the smartphone market next year. Already in this 2018, we have started seeing smartphones with the pinhole notch (i.e Huawei Nova 4 and Samsung Galaxy A8s).

Practically every smartphone manufacturers have embraced the cutout in an attempt to go edge to edge. Even Google made it a part of Android (while giving the world a notch you can see from space with the Pixel 3 XL). Indeed, this will be the trend in smartphones next year.

4. CAMERAS

You may be wondering why we used the word “cameras” and not just camera. This is because it is fast becoming a trend for phones to feature triple and quad back cameras (i.e Galaxy A8s, Nova 4, Huawei Mate 20LG ThinQ and more).

Smartphone cameras are pretty good across the board these days, so one of the simple solutions has been simply adding more to the equation. However, there are still rooms for improvements. Companies will need to invest more in software to help bring better shots to existing components.

Commenting on this issue, Mntrends Tech analyst, Neil Igho, suggested by saying: “Artificial intelligence can go a long way toward improving image capture on future devices, but expect much of that to be focused on ultra-low light and zoom”.

3. In-display Fingerprint Scanner

Fingerprints scanner ain’t going nowhere anytime soon. Although this time it could take a new dimension with so much improvement than before.

OnePlus 6T was among the first to bring the in-display or embedded fingerprint scanner trend to the market, and it works like a charm. Here is how the embedded screen works:
When the screen is locked, a fingerprint icon pops up, showing you where to press. When the finger is in the right spot, the AMOLED display flashes a bright light to capture a scan of the surface from the reflected light. The company says it takes around a third of a second, though in my own testing, that number was closer to one second or sometimes longer as I negotiated my thumb into the right spot.

2. Foldables

Foldable phone

Take it or leave it, Foldable smartphone will be the next big thing in 2019. Samsung made foldable the centerpiece of its recent developer conference, but didn’t really step out of the shadows with the product — almost certainly because they’re not ready to show off the full product. But next year, the tech company will let the cat out of the bag.

Of course, like 5G, these designs are going to come at a major premium. Once the initial novelty has worn off, the hardest task of all will be convincing consumers they need one in their life.

1. 5G

Recently, AT&T Telecom company unveiled it’s 5G Evolution (5G E) network to some cities in the United States. But in truth, 5G Evolution would not be same as the “true 5G network”.

OnePlus, LG and Samsung have all promised to produce 5G smartphones next year. We’ve also seen promises of a Verizon 5G MiFi and Intel 5G modem. In order words, tech companies are already putting things in order to make sure the dreams of 5G network fulfilled partially if not entirely.

That is to say, until 5G becomes more ubiquitous, you’re going to be paying a hefty premium for a feature you barely use. Of course, that’s not going to stop hardware makers, component manufacturers and their carrier partners from rushing these devices to market as quickly as possible.
