It’s true that Apple has asked iPhone resellers in China to reduce iPhone prices. And from what we have confirmed, the price reduction that is up to 20% only applies to iPhone 8, iPhone 8+, and iPhone XR for now.
Popular iPhone resellers in China like JD.com and Suning have already started selling these iPhones at their new reduced prices. The price of the iPhone 8 has now been reduced to RMB 3,999 (~$600 or N220,000), down 22 percent from its original price. The iPhone 8 Plus has also seen a similar price cut and is now available for RMB 4,799 (~$710 or N260,000).
Consumers can now also get iPhone XR at a discounted price of RMB 5,399 (~$800 or N290,000) instead of its usual price of RMB 6,499 on JD.com and Suning.
The reduction of iPhone prices in China could be a new strategy by the Apple company to sell their products, before the Chinese New Year next month. Although, there has been no confirmation of applying this similar price reduction strategy in any other part of the world yet. For now, this is only available in the Chinese market.
