The accusations about Huawei company being a tool used by the Chinese government to spy on other government has been on for long now. And recently, this has forced the company founder Ren Zhengfei to speak for the first time in a very long while.
Ren Zhengfei breaks years-long pubic silence to talk company security. The last time we can remember vividly that Huawei founder spoke publicly was in 2015. However, accusations labeled on his company has now forced him out to defend Huawei.
Huawei is facing an on-going crisis when it comes to its security reputation, and it hopes Zhengfei’s statements will mitigate fears. He broke that silence to deliver a roundtable briefing with both domestic and international reporters, via Bloomberg.
Ren Zhengfei said:
“Huawei firmly stands on the side of customers when it comes to cybersecurity and privacy,” He added. “I love my country, I support the Communist Party. But I will not do anything to harm the world. I don’t see a close connection between my personal political beliefs and the businesses of Huawei.”
Commenting on President Donald .J. Trump plan to ban Huawei usage in the United States, Ren Zhengfei said:
“Trump is a great president. He dares to massively cut taxes, which will benefit business. But you have to treat well the companies and countries so that they are willing to invest in the U.S. and the government will be able to collect enough tax,”
He also made it clear that Huawei can survive any sales bans, like those in the U.S. “Huawei is not a public company, we don’t need a beautiful earnings report,” he said. “If they don’t want Huawei to be in some markets, we can scale down a bit. As long as we can survive and feed our employees, there’s a future for us.”
Ren Zhengfai has now spoken publicly to assure consumers and we all that his company has no tie with the Chinese government. But do you think this can allay the existing fears?
