Design

Without saying too much here, simply put, the Tecno Phantom 9 has one of the best designs you’ve ever seen this year. Although it’s made of a plastic, but you will easily fall in love with it on a first glance due to its beautiful aurora color.

Moreover, there is only a very tiny bezel surrounding the OLED panel, so you’ll have a large view of the screen. Overall, the Tecno Phantom 9 has an excellent design over its predecessor.

Dimensions: Tecno Phantom 9 – 158.52* 75.3* 7.85mm vs Tecno Phantom 8 – 160 x 79.5 x 7.9 mm

Weight: Tecno Phantom 9 – 179g vs Tecno Phantom 8 – 185g

On this segment, the Tecno Phantom 9 wins. The Phantom 9 is more sleek, a little less taller and more light weighted. And it’s ok for a one hand operation.

Display

One important reason why I fell in love with the Tecno Phantom 9 was because of its AMOLED display. Devices using the OLED panel usually have the brightest and most color-accurate screens with as little color shift as possible.

However this is unlike the Phantom 8 that had a regular IPS LCD touchscreen which is not a match to OLED panels. Thus, it is easy to pinpoint Tecno Phantom 9 as the winner of this segment.

Hardware & Software

There’s really not too much we can talk about here. Since both smartphones are rocking the Mediatek chipset. Not the latest and greatest though, but hey! It’s still manageable.

The truth is that as impressive as the Tecno Phantom 9 is, a Qualcomm Snapdragon or a more advanced Mediatek chipset would have done perfect justice to the phone.

Moreover the Tecno Phantom 9 is running on Androids latest version – Android 9.0 Pie on top Tecno’s own latest software HiOS 5.

However as far as memory is concerned, keep in mind that the Tecno Phantom 9 only have one variant of 6GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage, while the Phantom 8 had 64GB internal storage with 6GB RAM. So if internal storage is of great importance to you, then the Tecno Phantom 9 will suit your needs better.

Camera

On this category, the Tecno Phantom 9 wins. The tri-lens rear camera delivers a good detailed pictures than the Phantom 8 dual rear camera. And also while the night mode picture of Tecno Phantom 9 is not the best in the market today, it however outshines that of the Phantom 8.

And oh! One more thing that made the Tecno Phantom 9 special, is the ultra-wide lens on the phone. With that you can capture wide range pictures of 120 degree view. And there is also a 32MP front camera for taking of selfies and video calls.

Thus if you’re going for a better camera smartphone between these two, my recommendation for you is the Tecno Phantom 9.

Battery

Both Tecno’s phone have the same battery capacity of 3500 mAh. But however, the Phantom 9 has a long battery life because of some certain features that helps to minimize the usage of background apps.
